Cleansed

There are times when even if you FULLY KNOW the facts, you ignore logic and common sense and choose instead to believe a lie.

Of course this only leads to more lies.

Next thing you know, you're tangled up in a net of fibs, half-truths and outright lies.

But your pride refuses to see these entanglements and puts on rose-colored glasses; making you see instead a world of misplaced trust and unfounded happiness.

Then comes along an incuous, almost imperceptible event.

And it rocks your world.

The glasses come off and you find all the fabrications that have been cosmetically altering the truth are being ripped apart before your eyes.

And if that was not enough, you are shoved in front of the mirror to show all the ugliness inside, the festering lies that have been covered up.

You are at a loss to do anything - except break down.

In the midst of your ruins, you feel someone put their arms around you.

You look up and see first the tears, then the deep sadness in the eyes of the one who tore down your pretensions. He then folds you in an embrace with an intensity of one who has finally found the love lost for so long.

In his arms you find that the endless lies you've built around yourself were each a stab to his heart, hurting him more deeply than anyone else could. Yet he would not retaliate in anger.

His strike was made not in vengeance, but in love. His hand moved to save you from being lost to him forever. Yet it saddened him to hurt you nonetheless.

So in the midst of the broken lies, the shattered half-truths, he reassures you his love.

And then, finally, you understand.
